I’m very excited about our new dining room. Ever since we bought our flat we’ve been planning to do something about the old dining table and dining room chairs, but we’ve never had the time and the money to actually get it sorted. But now we’re finally getting rid of the tatty old things that were left to us by the previous owner and getting something that matches our own tastes. This means that we’ll be able to invite people round for dinner, because thus far we’ve been too ashamed of the state of our dining room to throw a dinner party at our flat. I feel bad about that, because our friends are always inviting us round for food, and they always go to great lengths to ensure we get food that we enjoy, but we never return the compliment. Sure, we pick up the bill for meals in restaurants when we can, and we always take wine or single malt whisky round to other people’s houses when they have us over, but really the only genuine way to thank someone for cooking you a fine dinner is to invite them to your house at a later date.
The flat’s location is ideal, because it’s very central. This is vital for us, as neither of us drives. The local bus network is excellent, and we’re only half a mile from the nearest underground station. Although to be honest, I walk everywhere unless the weather is really awful, and I enjoy the feeling of having paced out the journey and experiencing everything that happens along the way, rather than sitting in a metal box and whizzing past. (Or, alternatively, just sitting in traffic). In fact, the flat is just about perfect for our needs: hard to believe that initially we weren’t sure it was the right one for us!
